O Fortuna
In category Internet on 26 Mar 2007 @ 11:44 am
Found this etc. No one else will care but I find it interesting.

In Roman mythology, Fortuna (equivalent to the Greek goddess Tyche) was the personification of luck, hopefully of good luck, but she could be represented veiled and blind, as modern depictions of Justice are seen, and came to represent the capriciousness of life. She is also a goddess of fate.

O FORTUNA (Original Latin lyrics)
O Fortuna, velut luna, statu variabilis,
Semper crescis aut decrescis, vita detestabilis.
Nunc obdurat et tunc curat ludo mentis aciem.
Egestatem, potestatem dissolvit ut glaciem.

Sors immanis et inanis, rota tu volubilis,
Status malus, vana salus, semper dissolubilis.
Obumbrata et velata mihi quoque niteris.
Nunc per ludum, dorsum nudum fero tui sceleris.

Sors salutis et virtutis, mihi nunc contraria,
Est affectus et defectus, semper in angaria.
Hac in hora, sine mora, corde pulsum tangite,
Quod per sortem, sternit fortem, mecum omnes plangite.

O FORTUNA (English translation)
O Fortune, like the moon, of variable state,
You are always waxing and waning, detestable life!
Now you are stubborn and then you treat the alertness of mind like a game.
Neediness and power you dissolve like ice.

Monstrous and inane Luck, you turning wheel,
Evil conditions and vain health are always perishable.
Shadowy and veiled, you contend with me.
Now through a game, I bear the naked back of your misdeed.

The source of health and virtue, now against me.
Is oppressed and forsaken, always in bondage.
Right this hour, without delay, take the pulse of my heart,
Which by chance, prostrates Fortune. Everyone lament with me!

Inspiring politics

This news article made me chuckle for a while. When state politics is so bad that the news says, "NSW voters have delivered a damning verdict on both parties in tomorrow's state election battle, declaring overwhelmingly that neither deserves to run the government."; things are bad.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm not sure if I have Winndows. Let alone if it's broken...

Gives you an indication on the quality of the company you need to harass web users.

Flckr crap
In category Internet on 21 Nov 2006 @ 06:28 pm
Yes I do have a Flckr.com account despite having ample space to display my photos here. But only a free one. This of course means I am limited to 20mb of uploads per month and when I resize photos to 1024 on their longest edge that should be fine right? Well I uploaded 5 photos from the Brisbane meetup I went to on the weekend and these came to a grand total of 650kb. Somehow after uploading these I had used 99% of my upload limit for the month.. That's 99% of 20mb. So unless they have some retard working on math beside the server then that's total BS.

So I have the choice of paying $25 a year to be ripped off or to be ripped off on a smaller scale for nothing? I'll take door number 2 thanks.

From now on everyone can just find their way to my site to see my totally awesome photos and not make me have to deal with obviously dodgy websites. I should have know when I signed in with my yahoo name.
