Broken Hill -> Ceduna -> Kalgoorlie
In category General on 14 Jan 2008 @ 08:20 am
I tried to update my site in Ceduna ranting about how bad South Australian drivers are but I couldn't get online. Partially because some dickhead gave me the flu before I left and I felt like crap. So instead I'll put up some photos from the longest part of the drive, made longer by the fact that we decided not to spend the night at Norseman and instead kept driving for a couple more hours to get to Kalgoorlie.

This part of the drive was right across the Nullarbor and it had more plants and shrubs than I expected. It also means that for the South Australia part of this journey we were driving almost right along the Great Australian Bight and there were frequent places to stop and take photos like this one:

Also.
Dear Americans,
This is a road train. It's only a little one but it still shows you the general idea of what they are. By the time we got to Kalgoorlie there were roads that were only letting shorter ones, i.e. ones less than 53 meters (160 feet) long, drive that way.

After the exciting South Australian side of the Nullarbor, the Western Australia side headed inland and the most exciting part of this 6 - 8 hours driving was Australia's longest piece of straight road.

Once we got to Kalgoorlie we went and had a look at the SuperPit which is a massive hole in the ground. It was about 7pm by now and the sun was still too bright so we came back at 9pm and took a few night photos of that and some other mining stuff.

On to Perth today. Seeing we're pretty close already we won't be leaving until about midday local time.

What kind of speed are you averaging?

Did the speed limit the whole time basically. So we would have averaged 110 km/h at a guess.
