Australian broadband
In category Geebin on 21 Mar 2006 @ 03:55 pm
The quality of the plans available to people in Australia are shit. Now I'm not talking about obscure needs or anything, in fact they're basic needs of broadband. Fast service and shaping after the amount of downloads runs out. There are only 2 options that provide this, (Telstra and Optus cable) and only one available where I am. Excess downloads are charged on all Telstra plans except for the 'unlimited' plans which are limited at 10GB. If I want to change plans I only get the option to be charged 15c/Mb (which is very rediculous!) after my monthly download amount has run out. This is not a possibility because I don't want to leave myself open for bills in the thousands of dollars. So here is what I can do: piss and moan on my blog and to anyone who'll listen and hope that someone realises that there is a large need for good providers!
Or get ADSL. ADSL2 is as fast, or faster (depending on your locality) as cable, and there are several providers available, or becoming available.

ADSL is too slow really. ADSL2 used to be really expensive because it needed a phone line and stuff, it does cost more but iinet's adsl2 is faster and has better plans. http://iinet.com.au/broadband/. I don't know what happens if you go over the monthly limit though.
