My little problem

It's only a little problem so far because it hasn't happened yet. Fingers crossed and knock on wood and all that crap.
I leave Lansing, MI at 6am tomorrow going to LAX. My Japan Airlines flight leaves at 11:50am from LAX. These are the two absolute times that I need to fit into and therin lies the problem. My trip to LAX goes via O'Hare, Chicago which is notorious for never having anything on time ever, (I was delayed there 5 hours on my way here), and is meant to get there at 10am. Even if that flight is on time then I'm only going to have 1 hour and 50 minutes to get my luggage from the domestic terminal 7 to the Tom Bradley International Terminal, (about 1km away), and check my luggage, go through security and get to my gate. After the new security measures were put in place it was recommended that you get to LAX 4 hours before you're meant to leave on an international flight, I have less than half of that. That's if, (and that's the biggest IF in the world), O'Hare is on time for once.
So if something does go wrong, what are my options? It's not a connection that I'm getting (because the flights were booked seperately) so they probably aren't going to hold the JAL flight for me. Do I have any claim to JAL to put me on another flight or am I going to have to pay for a seperate ticket? If the next flight is not until the next day, what do I do for a night in L.A.?
