AMD Turion

The 64-bit Turion is AMD's answer to Intel's Centrino. AMD are providing the CPU's but the chipsets can be provided by a number of vendors which may result in higher power consumption. Despite being an AMD fan myself, I am not going to swap my Centrino for a Turion any time soon. I value the high battery life and low weight of my Dell 600m.

The first AMD Turion notebook has been released. It's the Acer Aspire AS5000 and by the looks of that article, the people at PC Mag are unimpressed. One of their complaints is that it doesn't have a firewire port? How many mainstream laptop buyers use the firewire port on laptops like the Dell D505? USB 2.0 is faster.. *mumble mumble*
The Turion64's look good. Lets hope some of the chipset manufacturers make some good laptops with it.
